It was in the earlier 13th century, a period of intense spiritual revival, that the Beauport Abbey was founded, thanks to the generosity of Count Alain de Goëlo.
Set in superb surroundings between woodland (100 acres) and sea, in a sheltered cove flanking Paimpol Bay and facing the Island of Bréhat, the abbey was one of the region's major trading centres throughout the Middle Ages. It launched the famous Monk's Fair, built dykes and a harbour, and took care of pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
It became a listed building in 1862, thanks to Prosper Mérimée.
Since 1993, the abbey and its coastal estate have belonged to the French coastal conservancy agency (Conservatoire du littoral) which has undertaken to meet the challenge of its restoration with the assistance of the Town of Paimpol, the Communauté de Communes (grouped municipalities) of Paimpol-Goëlo, the Regional Council of the Cotes d'Armor, the Regional Council of Brittany, the Ministry of the Arts and Europe.
Entertainment throughout the year: historical talks, activities for school parties, guided tours, nature rambles, folktale evenings, Breton legends and music.

15th June to 15th September: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Low season: 10 a.m. to 12 and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
